Profile: Jimmy Accursio & the Capri Restaurant
In 1958, Richard Accursio established the Capri Restaurant on the east side of Krome Avenue, down the street from the present location at 935 North Avenue. Richard created a family-owned Italian restaurant that appealed to everyone. His wife, Marilyn, daughter, Charmaine and son, Jimmy were instrumental in the day-to-day operation and success of the restaurant.
Today, Jimmy and his wife, Patty, and stepmother, Jean continue to greet old friends and new guests daily at the restaurant.
Since 1958, for almost 50 years, the Capri Restaurant and the Accursios have relied on 1st National Bank of South Florida for all their banking needs, with personalized service being the backbone of a strong business relationship.

Brothers Jimmy and John Diaz at their Diaz Supermarket location at 212 West Mowry Drive.
In 1976, Adalbert Diaz moved his family from New York City to Homestead. In 1979 with the help of 1st National Bank of South Florida he opened the first Diaz Supermarket on Moody Drive and Southwest 135th Avenue.
Thirty-one years later, with the financial assistance of 1st National Bank of South Florida, his sons, John and Jimmy and daughter Aida Brunelle, and John’s wife Mercedes, own and operate
three grocery stores and the Princeton Insurance Agency, all located in the Homestead area.
Profile: Andy Fischer and Sons Jewelry and Gifts
In 1953, Milton & Margaret Fischer established Fischer & Sons Jewelry at 141 North Krome Avenue in downtown Homestead. The store was known for its selection of diamonds, gold and fine china and crystal. Sons, Andrew and Paul worked in the store and learned the business as well.
Today, three generations later, Andrew, and parents, Andy and Roslyne run Andy Fischer and Sons Jewelry and Gifts, now located at 40 NW 14th Street in Homestead, just west of Krome Avenue.
For almost thirty years, 1st National Bank has been an integral part of the Fischer family business, assisting them in their growth, expansion and success.
Profile: Homestead Furniture Company & Ron Webb
In 1927, brothers, Frank and “Bevo” Webb started Homestead Furniture Company at 35 North Krome Avenue in downtown Homestead. The store carried furniture and decorative items and furnished many homes in the area. Later on Homestead Furniture became a full family operation employing John Whichard, Mary Webb Leiby, John Andrew Webb, Ron Webb, and Billie Staton.
After Hurricane Andrew destroyed the business, owner Ron Webb moved to the current location at 131 North Krome Avenue and now deals in antiques and collectibles.
The Webb brothers started doing business with 1st National Bank of Homestead in 1934. Frank Webb and Max Losner, the founder of 1st National Bank were good friends and later on Frank became Chairman of the Board of 1st National Bank. For almost 75 years, Homestead Furniture and the Webb family have been members of the 1st National Bank family.
Profile: Miriam Hood
Miriam Burton Hood was born in Georgia in 1913. In 1914 her family moved to Homestead where she grew up.
The Burton’s bought the family home on Krome Avenue and N.W. 8th Street and opened Burton's Department Store. The store sold clothing and dry goods. After Miriam graduated from Wrigley Art School, she married Lonnie Hood and raised two sons, Michael and Richard.
With 1st National Bank backing, Lonnie bought his father in-law's store and changed the name to Hood's Department Store in the early 1950's. In the mid-60's Lonnie retired from the store and then went into the grove business-growing avocados and chamaedorea seeds. Later on, he retired again. Miriam Hood and her son, Michael Hood, still live in Homestead.
The Burton and Hood families are one of the earliest families to bank with 1st National Bank for over 50 years and are still customers today.
