Homestead Middle School recently hosted a breakfast to recognize the many people who volunteer their time throughout the year to tutor students at the school. The principal, Martin Reid, presented the volunteers with the Most Valuable Volunteer Awards, as well as presenting students with the Most Valuable Student Award.
Molly Whitman, Vice President at 1st National Bank of South Florida, has been volunteering for four years at Homestead Middle School. Joining her this year as a new reading volunteer, also from 1st National Bank, was Margaret McAlister, PHR AVP/Human Resources Manager
Every year, Homestead Middle School honors the volunteers for their work with the students. Volunteers are an integral part of the academic success of many students at Homestead Middle School and at many other schools in the Homestead-Florida City area. Donating your time to tutor students costs nothing, but pays off in big ways by creating successful individuals and brighter futures.

"IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO HELP A CHILD LEARN TO READ WELL."
Reading volunteers are always needed:
- Fill out a volunteer form with MDCPS. (Forms available at the school)
- Spend some time, one or two mornings, any day of the week,
7:50-8:35 a.m. at Homestead Middle School
650 NW 2nd Avenue, Homestead, Florida 33030
- And listen to the child read.
BECAUSE, there are many students at Homestead Middle School and other schools in the Homestead-Florida City area that are in need of a mentor. Children always need someone to show interest in their lives and help them with their reading during the school wide comprehensive reading block.
